Why does this make our drinking water more expensive?

Due to overfertilisation of the soil, the limit value of 50 milligrams of nitrate per litre of groundwater is exceeded many times over in many regions of Germany. Waterworks have to take costly countermeasures to maintain high drinking water quality.
